Bonsall, an unincorporated area of San Diego County, is located in the rolling foothills of North San Diego County on Highway 76. The community started after John Bonsall, a Methodist minister, who was hauling lumber through Gopher Canyon more than a century ago, built a house and planted fruit orchards in 1879. The town was first known as Mount Fairview.

In the meantime, venture firms invested $377.5 million in life sciences firms in San Diego County during the fourth quarter of 2011, according to Dow Jones VentureSource. During the same period a year earlier, $217.5 million was invested.
